my thoughts on e-books; how I study (again); how much I don't know about admissions

Q&A Sunday is back in full swing! Let's get this party started...

Hey! Your blog is great BTW! I am starting opt school in the fall (IUSO) and I was looking into book prices and I noticed that most are available on Kindle. Do you have any experience with Kindle or e-texts or know anyone in school using them?

Thank you! Congrats on starting optometry school. I actually just bought my first e-book textbook this semester, and it's taken a little getting used to, but I have to say I LOVE it! I use the Kindle app on my iPad and it's great for highlighting and annotating. My favorite things are being able to access all your highlighted items at once, and the SEARCH function is probably the best thing ever. Have you ever been skimming through a textbook trying to find where you read something? Yeah, your troubles are over. It also saves on bulk/weight and makes it easy to carry your textbooks around with you. And hey, a lot of times they're cheaper. In short: I vote yes on e-books.

Hey girl! I'm starting in the fall and loved reading your blog. You've inspired me to write my own. Few questions: What is your daily schedule like? How do you study? Do you set certain times for certain classes, etc? Any tips for a first year? Thanks! :)

Hello and congrats! I'm pretty sure I've answered some of your questions to some extent in the past... try HERE and HERE for my study tips and things like that. And honestly I don't really have a schedule when it comes to studying. I go to class, and when I'm not going to clinic, doing something social, running errands, working out, sleeping, or messing around on the internet, I'm probably studying. For myself I feel there just aren't enough hours in a day to do the "planned studying" thing, so I'll generally focus on the next test or two and start studying for those 2-5 days in advance (depending on how hard the class is). I'm not saying this is the best way to do it, but it works for me and that's all that matters.

As for tips for an incoming firstie: enjoy the last of your summer before optometry takes your soul. :)

Hi, I just found your blog and am finding it super inspirational (nerdy, I know). Anyways, if you don't mind me asking, what was the admitting for Pacific? Do they only look at certain years/courses or as a whole? Thank you!

Thanks! Well, I'm not on the admissions committee, so I honestly have no idea what they really look at. I touched on what I did to get into optometry school HERE, so see if that helps at all. You also might find THIS POST somewhat useful. And here is PUCO'S ADMISSIONS PAGE... follow all that and you should theoretically be golden.

For future reference, there is a search bar on the top right of my page. Try finding what you're looking for that way first so you can see if your burning questions have been previously answered. In fact, you can even see me use it in action: I dug up an example of how I reacted to doing all the work for someone at the bottom of THIS POST. Holy snark attack Batman, it really works!
